Women’s 2s 2 - 5 Barnes 1s (H)
By Josie Roux
The whistle blew, the game began,
And Surbiton charged with a masterful plan.
Barely a minute had ticked off the clock,
When Katie struck true—Barnes stood in shock!
Before they could breathe, before they could blink,
Amie Hunt made the scoreline sink!
Two goals up, all looked bright,
Surbiton cruising—what a sight!
Quarter two brought some umpiring gaffes,
A Barnes goal gifted—cue Surbiton laughs.
An aerial mistrap? Oh, come on, ref!
The player was NOT five—are you deaf?!
Tensions rose, tempers flared,
A green card here, a green card there.
Then poor Meg, in a moment rash,
Said farewell to the game with a yellow card flash.
Quarter three, and Barnes fought back,
A cracking save from Jemma —no time to slack!
But the rebound fell, and so did our lead,
An equaliser scored with blistering speed.
Then Lillie spoke, and the ump took offence,
Another yellow—this match made no sense.
To add to our pain, the whistle then blew,
A stroke for Barnes? Oh, what else is new?
Quarter four—our luck ran dry,
Two short corners, Barnes let fly.
A final score of five to two,
But Surbiton spirits? Still shining through!
Then, disaster—Josie’s fate was sealed,
Her mask and earring became one on the field.
Time refused to stop—no mercy was shown,
And “D**k of the Day” was well and truly owned.
Yet, in a twist that none foresaw,
Josie won Player of the Match—hear the crowd roar!
Monica’s defence was something to see,
And Katie’s composure? Pure poetry.
Despite the odds, despite the calls,
Surbiton stood tall through it all.
With heads held high, they fought with grace,
Even against Barnes’ abrasive fanbase!
