U14 Girls Win Bronze At EHL

20th April 2025

By Colin Pike

Surbiton's Under-14 Girls followed up last season's Euro Hockey League triumph by winning bronze at the 2025 edition in 's-Hertogenbosch on Sunday.

Surbiton had qualified for the semi-finals by beating Klein Zwitserland 6-0 and Braxgata 1-0 in Pool B to finish top and set up a last four meeting with Pool A runners-up, Real Club de Polo.

Real Club de Polo defended six penalty corners on their way to a tight 1-0 victory, Inez Fabregaz scoring the only goal from open play in the ninth minute.

Surbiton then faced Klein Zwitserland in the bronze medal match and found the Dutch club more difficult to break down, winning 2-1 with all the goals coming in the first half.

Hattie Bushnell opened the scoring from open play before a hectic ending to the second quarter which saw Veerle Kruter equalise for Klein Zwitserland from a penalty corner in the 19th minute, only for Surbiton to respond immediately, Lizzie Brain scoring what proved to be the winner in the 20th minute and secure the bronze medals.

Ultimately, Pool A proved to be the stronger pool in depth with winners, Münchner SC, who had beaten Real Club de Polo 2-1 in their first match, proving to be even stronger in the final, winning 5-1 to lift the trophy.

Braxgata, who had lost 1-0 to Surbiton in the 2024 final, had to settle for a sixth-placed finish after losing 2-1 to hosts 's-Hertogenbosch in the fifth place playoff.
