Strong Second Half for Calypsos Secures Win

Gameday: 19th October 2025

By Manfred Lam

GU16 Calypsos 5 - 1 Spencer (H)

The first round of Tier 2 KO Championship fell at the start of the school holiday, meaning there was no form guide as drafts were called upon. Closures on the A3 added further disruptions to the match without a full line up from both sides at the start.

There were a lot of silky skills on display by individuals from the Calypsos but the team lacked cohesion in attack whilst the link up play was second best and individual defensive duties could have been better. Spencer were able to exploit this and managed to run the first half at ease. Lamb, our goalie, had kept the team in play only for so long of the match before the team gave away soft goal with the ball rolling across the line seconds ahead of the half time whistle.

The whites came out of the break with more purpose and urgency. Winter and Henkes kept up their recent impressive form by scoring in third successive matches in all competitions. The former’s positional plays throughout the game were noteworthy and were rewarded with a far post finish (for the equaliser); and the latter’s shooting accuracy finally beat the Spencer keeper from a ferocious drive at the edge of D on the right to the bottom left corner to close the match.

In between, Moffat grabbed two goals opportunistically, and Latchford, the draft, finished off a team move that originated from the back - three passes and a goal for a much improved second half.

The next round takes place on November 9th, Remembrance Sunday. In the meantime, have a good half term break, everyone.

Scorers: Winter, Moffatt (2), Latchford, Henkes

Result: 0-1 (HT), 5-1 (FT)
