Sirens 2 - 1 Merton 2s (H)
By Sarah Kelly
The Sirens started the match strongly, showing great teamwork and energy across the pitch. Their early pressure paid off when a well-executed short corner led to the opening goal - Claire T’s strike deflected off the keeper and into the net to give the Sirens a deserved first half lead.
In the second half, the Sirens adopted a more defensive shape, but struggled to connect passes as Merton began to take control through their strong central midfield. Merton’s pressure eventually told, and they equalised to level the score at 1–1.
The Sirens regrouped and began to build momentum again. Their efforts were rewarded when Tessa found the net to put the team back in front. A potential third goal from Laura was ruled out after the ball touched a Sirens foot before crossing the line.
The Sirens held firm until the final whistle to secure a 2–1 victory - a great result reflecting determination, teamwork, some fantastic saves from the keeper and smart play from the whole squad.
