Sages 1 - 1 Hendon & Mill Hill Phoenix
By Tarryn Archbold
Sages embarked on a mammoth journey from Surbiton, Spain, and Italy to face Hendon & Mill Hill Phoenix in their latest league clash on Sunday. Despite traveling with the bare minimum number of players, the team embraced the challenge with determination.
Phoenix took the lead midway through the first half, but Sages refused to let their heads drop. They continued to fight for every ball, showing grit and perseverance. Their efforts paid off just two minutes before half time when a beautifully executed short corner set play saw Ruth slot home a crucial equaliser, levelling the score at 1-1.
Buoyed by that late first half goal, Sages came out firing in the second half, applying relentless pressure and winning multiple short corners. They peppered the Phoenix goal with shots, but the opposition's keeper - seemingly with glue on her pads - pulled off a series of remarkable saves to deny a well-deserved winner. Despite their attacking dominance, the final whistle blew with the score locked at 1-1.
A huge well done to Ruth for her goal, to Kirst for being voted Player of the Match, and a special shoutout to Sinead for making the journey despite feeling under the weather. A brilliant team effort!
