Sirens 2 - 1 Old Cranleighan 7s (A)

Gameday: 4th October 2025

By Charlotte C

It was a brisk morning out at Old Cranleighans, and the pitch was set for a proper scrap. Much like a particularly challenging biscuit recipe, the first five minutes were a bit crumbly for Surbiton as OCs snuck one in to take an early lead. You could see the collective look of a lost puppy on the faces of the Surbiton faithful. But bless their hearts, this Surbiton squad has more fight than a badger in a sack, and they weren’t about to let that first snag ruin the whole quilt.

The tide started to turn like a well-executed tea stir in the 22nd minute. A cracking cross from Claire T found Surge, who, with technique as perfect as a freshly ironed handkerchief, slotted it home. 1-1!

Suddenly, the air was sweeter, like a fresh batch of shortbread. The midfield engine room, powered by Surge and Nao, was a thing of beauty - a seamless, well-oiled machine, working together like two peas in a very productive pod.

Then came the moment in the 33rd minute that was slower than a Sunday afternoon drive. A lovely bit of vision from Louise sent the ball on its way, finding Jenny. Now, Jenny’s been in a bit of a dry spell, but sometimes, all you need is a little luck. She poked it goalward, and the ball, in a dramatic, slow-motion saunter, rolled right through the keeper’s legs. 2-1 to Surbiton! It wasn't pretty, but it broke the dam, reminding everyone that every cloud has a silver lining, even the ones made of slow-moving hockey balls.

And let’s not forget the heroics of Annie in the goal. She was a wall, a lighthouse in a storm, pulling off saves that made you think she had an extra set of hands.

Final score: Surbiton takes the W, 2-1. It just goes to show you, sometimes all you need is a little belief, a little teamwork, and a very slow goal to get the job done.
