Men's 1s 7 - 0 Southgate 1s (A)
Surbiton Men’s 1s took a comfortable 7-0 win at Southgate on Saturday evening to extend their 2025/26 season winning streak.
Following Thursday night’s important victory at second placed Wimbledon, it was a clinical performance from the defending champions, who were quickly out of the blocks and opened the scoring at Southgate Hockey Centre through a Stu Rushmere field goal in the first 60 seconds.
Jake Payton dispatched a penalty corner rebound five minutes later and Nick Bandurak made it 3-0, adding another goal to his 25/26 tally before the end of the first quarter. Gareth Furlong flicked the M1 to a four goal lead in the 18th minute and it stayed that way until the half time break.
Bandurak put away a penalty stroke in the 40th minute for his 17th goal in what has been an incredible start to the campaign for the England and GB striker, who has scored in every game since joining Surbiton. Max Anderson then made it two goals in two games and another Furlong penalty corner strike completed the rout for the visitors.
Adam Buckle was named Player of the Match and the M1 can be delighted with another clean sheet after a big three days in the opening half of the campaign. With one game to go in Phase One, Surbiton now have a seven point lead at the top of the Premier Division table and a healthy goal difference to boot. Next Saturday’s opponents Reading do have an outside chance of making the Top 6 so will be gunning for points, but the M1 will aim for another home victory to make it eleven wins from eleven.
