Men's 1s 3 - 0 Wimbledon 1s (A)
Surbiton M1 went five points clear at the top of the Premier Division table following a dominant display against second-placed Wimbledon on Thursday night.
There was a good crowd on the sidelines, including a large number of hardy Surbiton supporters who came down to Raynes Park High School despite the weather coming in ahead of the game. Surbiton looked defensively solid throughout, but the scoreboard remained blank until after half time despite a couple of first half penalty corners for each side.
After the break Surbiton scored three goals in the space of eight minutes, sparked by Gareth Furlong’s low penalty corner strike in the 52nd minute. Nick Bandurak’s 100% scoring streak continued with another drag flick past keeper Toby Reynolds-Cotterill’s stick early in the fourth quarter to make it 2-0 before he turned provider for Max Anderson to score a diving deflection with ten minutes to go.
Calum Douglas made a couple of saves to keep a clean sheet, while at the other end Surbiton did squander a few further late opportunities to put gloss on the scoreline. Player-coach Barry Middleton was pleased with the result, which sees the Seals create a points cushion at the top of the table ahead of Saturday’s away fixture at Southgate: “The boys put in a great performance against another top team and it was especially pleasing to see the defensive intensity of the whole team to keep a clean sheet. I’m really looking forward to the last couple of games as we look to finish this half of the season strongly.”
Surbiton have one further Phase One match following the Southgate fixture as they close out 2025 with a home game against Reading at 18:00 on Saturday 22nd November.
