M2 Lose Out in a Tight Local Derby, After Failing to Take Their Chances
Goal: Scott Evans
It was a very, very, very cold day. The boys entered in high spirits excited to destroy a tennis club, however things did not go to plan. After a motivational team talk, the boys were raring to go with a stellar warmup made for Mr Redstone.
The game started well with a few good chances in the opening quarter. Eventually, Scott Evans nuked a forehand which rifled through the near post of the Wimbledon goalkeeper. Unfortunately, the boys in white were unable to make pressure count and convert their numerous open play and PC chances, and Rhys got a rather harsh yellow card after being bamboozled by his opponent.
A PC routine and a scrappy goal late in Q4 saw the boys 2-1 down with just a few minutes remaining. Arj and Haspel found themselves yards out with only the GK to beat, but failed to connect and get a shot away. Unfortunately we were unable to penetrate Mark Haycroft (in goal) and the match finished 2-1 Wimbledon.
Post-match the handbags were thrown! Morgan Males exchanged some non-PG words with his Whitgift nemesis and Scott Evans, the team hardman, squeezed the hand of a 16 year old boy a bit too hard.
It goes to show the best team does not always win, but we still sit on top of East Conference by a single point and a superior goal difference. We must remain positive going into a short break before the six remaining league fixtures. It is still in our hands, in a league where anybody can beat anybody on the day.
