Women’s 4s 0 - 1 Harrow 1s (A)

Gameday: 5th October 2024

By Aoife Diver

On Saturday morning the sun was shining and it was a glorious day. Everyone was in high spirits despite the heavy traffic and slight uncertainty as to where the game was being played. We came out strong first half: a solid back line with our strategy of switching and transferring play across the back between Amber, Charlotte, Sunny and Aoife. There was lots of strong stick work and quick passes by Charlotte, Sophia, Thea and Emily in the midfield, and the other team were struggling to defend our breakthroughs down the wings from Ella and Sophie.

We had repeated attacks up the left and right line, as well as lots of cracking balls through from Charlotte in defence to Tegan in the forward line, however no matter how close we got, we just couldn’t seem to score!

Eventually, after a run down the right from Sophie who crossed the ball to the P spot, Tegan managed to tap one in! We ran back to half way celebrating, only to find out that the umpires had disallowed the goal and given a hit out to the other team as it was judged to have had hit our foot in the D.

After half time, Harrow came out much stronger, and with only one sub (again!) we were beginning to tire. Our passing game was not as strong as in the first half and we found ourselves on the defensive a lot more, but luckily Lexie kept their shots out.

Eventually, we gave away a short corner from which they scored, leaving us 1-0 down with not long left of the game. Despite our efforts we just couldn’t work it back up the pitch to score a goal. The 4s were very disappointed not to have come away with more from the game, but we will be back and ready for the next encounter next weekend.
