Women’s 6s 2 - 0 Barnes 5s (A)
By Niamh Wilson
What a day for our wonderful Surbie 6s! My amazing time keeping skills got Ellie and I there about 20 minutes early, but a quick car nap sorted us out. However, once we arrived pitchside (still the wrong timings - my bad) no one except Zoe was there, so another lie down called our names. Eventually everyone else showed up except Ffion, Millie and Tarryn - I think that calls for a late fine! Once everyone was there, Fee led us through a great warm up!
Due to a shortage in defence this week, we found ourselves with a slightly different formation, and a new stand-in goalie (up the Sophia!). The change wouldn't stop us though! The first half began and we went in strong, immediately showing Barnes W5s what they were in for. Our mids worked hard, several passes being made up through to our forwards. Tish seemed to be here, there and everywhere, a very deserved POM, which helped get the ball up the pitch. Some great runs and teamwork from Zoe and Aashny also gave us the upper hand. Fee was a wall in defence - no one getting past her and Freya had all the skills running up the pitch.
Finally our first goal was scored from our very own Tish, with a great assist from Ffion. You'd think with the amount of short corners we were awarded the score would be about 12-0 but alas. I think we all collectively agree that short corners should be a new focus at training... Not long after, Ffion scored a corker of a goal bringing the score to 2-0. This seemed to encourage us more, I decided to take my chances and went for a shot but completely scuffed it and somehow ended up on the floor.. explains the DOD.
Half time was called and after our team talk we went back out. The opposition started being quite argy bargy but had nothing on us. Skipper Sammy held her own in the middle and Val had some more shots at goal. More short corners, but we won't talk about that, and we kept on fighting. Sadly no more goals were scored and the game ended with a short corner from Barnes but our defence stood strong and final score was 2-0. No match teas this week as we all headed off home to get ready for the Halloween social at the club. Well done ladies!
