Sloths 3 - 2 Wapping O35s Remains (A)
EH O35s Tier 2 Championships
By Emily Hughes
A strong team of Sloths met on Sunday morning at Waterloo Station, in various states of readiness, excited to head to the Olympic pitches to take on Wapping Remains in the next round of the O35s plate. What should have been a simple if not slightly long journey took a turn when a couple of innocuous two inch steps out of Leyton station sent me crashing to the ground. An incident report form and offer of a lift in a supermarket shopping trolley from a local later (all the while Sinead looking impatiently at her watch) and we were back en route to the game.
Despite my attempts to ruin Charlotte’s best made plans, we made a super start to the game. We dominated possession and ran circles round Wapping throughout the first half. Our first goal came from a killer free hit from Charlotte, skilfully deflected by Helen, and calmly pushed into the goal by Taryn who’d been hanging out at the post.
Not long after, some more great team play culminated in Jo scoring our second. Everyone was executing their roles to perfection, perhaps apart from Charlotte who at left back enjoyed wandering as high as she could. Some might say the lure of golden stick is getting to her! Hard to criticise though, as our third goal came from another of her free hits, which fell to Sian, who turned and executed an amazing backboard splitting strike.
At half time we were full of enthusiasm and wondering how many more goals we were going to score. However Wapping came out showing they hadn’t given up the fight. They made some changes to their line up with levelled out the possession, and some misjudgement on our part led them to a very soft first goal. Some end to end play ensued, culminating in a very well executed solo goal from their star player. However it was too little too late, with the final whistle going immediately after.
Big shout out to Laura, our number one supporter, Team Manager, and all round legend.
Sloths are now looking forward progressing to the next round in the Plate.
