Surbiton Sloths 4 - 4 Teddington Tornadoes (H)
By Jen Rohan
Scorers: Charlotte, Ruth x 2, Tina
POM: Beckie (awesome and dependable in centre midfield)
DOD: Jen (spectacularly failing to clinch the winner in the dying seconds of the game)
On a crisp fall day at Sugden’s ground,
Two veteran sides, fierce and proud,
Surbiton and Teddington, face to face,
In a clash where age brings no slower pace.
Surbiton struck first, with skill and might,
A goal in the net, a lead in sight.
But Teddington’s vets had fire inside,
With clever hands and heads held high.
They struck back hard, a fierce reply,
The score was level under autumn’s sky.
Two goals apiece, the game was tight,
Neither team willing to give up the fight.
Surbiton surged, a goal for three,
But Teddington’s spirit refused to flee.
A fourth was scored by Surbiton’s best,
But Teddington vets were not to rest.
With minutes left, they clawed back two,
And tied the game in a last-minute coup.
The final whistle, the scoreboard bright,
Four goals each, in fading light.
Old hands, still skilled, with hearts of gold,
A 4-4 draw, where legends told.
For though the years have made them wise,
The fire of youth still burns in their eyes.
Surbiton and Teddington, neck and neck,
A timeless battle, with mutual respect.
