Sirens 1 - 4 Cheam 3s (H)
By Jackie Anderson
Well, the warm-up was supposed to get us all loose and ready, but someone forgot to tell Suz, who got stuck in a stretch position that may or may not have required a search and rescue team. We eventually got her un-stuck (with minimal injury).
The first half kicked off: The defence decided to showcase their passing by launching some serious long balls. Midfield were ferocious, not letting up. Jackie made a valiant attempt at goal, but it was like, “Yessss... Nooooo!”. Our fab forwards battled on. But Cheam managed to get behind the defence and scored three goals in the first half.
Then came the second half after jelly babies and oranges. We collected ourselves, picked up our lipsticks and hockey sticks, managed to make some good passes and then came 'The Monica' - we did it - goal! - flickers of hope. As Sirens do, we courageously battled on.
But let’s talk about the real action—Jackie, in a display of "no nonsense" play, quite literally rammed into a player who dared to block her path. For a brief moment, everyone on the field stopped to make sure we hadn’t just witnessed an unplanned wrestling match.
We all made it out in one piece (except Suz’s dignity, which might still be stuck in that stretch).
Final score was 4-1 to Cheam but we kept the second half to 1-1.
Thank you Anne-Lise for spending your birthday playing goalie for the Sirens.
Wally of the Week Wig award went to... it had to be Suz.
