GU14 Ospreys Put in Good Performance vs OCs
By Manfred Lam
GU14 Ospreys 6 - 0 Old Cranleighan GU14A
Round 2 brought the Old Cranleighans to town – a derby match that would see the winner set the pace and consolidate its position at the top of division after stand out results of both teams prior. Ospreys duly delivered with a well fought 6-0 win.
Ospreys played with conviction and purpose. Movements were good and passing was largely accurate, creating advanced positioning and scoring opportunities. Our girls had a larger share of possession in the first half, but their pressing game wasn’t rewarded until the breakthrough goal by Walker in the fourteenth minute. Maintaining the high tempo of match saw our lead increase to four in a seven minute spell before the half ended.
Our backline was solid, and held off increasing pressure from the opposition as the game went on. Balls were recycled diligently, in particular, inside the D to turn defensive positioning to offensive opportunities. Set pieces were well drilled and largely effective, with some good short corners.
The presence of Elliot, our replacement goalie for this match only, was not only a boost to what has already been the meanest defence on record (two games played, +14 goal difference), she also produced a number of memorable saves.
As both sides traded chances, Saksena took her second hat trick in as many games this season. The team formation was fluid and small tweaks to the individual positions in the second half consolidated victory. Looking ahead, the overall conversion of the team could be higher in what has been a cohesive unit on display.
Scores (half on half): 4-0, 2-0
