By Melissa Johnson
GU14 Ospreys 3 - 1 Wayfarers GU14 (A)
Tier 2 League Match
An eagerly anticipated top of the table clash to wash away half term blues with Ospreys at virtually full strength at Kennington Park. Given the home advantage Wayfarers started brighter with more possession in our half but strong Ospreys defence and a brilliant save by keeper Ribet kept Wayfarers at bay. 0-0 end of Q1.
The second quarter started like the first with Wayfarers in the ascendancy but met with our continued resolute and well organised defensive line. Saksena breaks away after solid work from the back and crosses to Fegan to score, 0-1 Ospreys. Ospreys find the confidence to start dominating play with a short corner to boot and good transition play by Thomas down the left. 0-1 Half time.
Third quarter starts with a close chance by Wayfarers after a move down their right flank and after one more close chance they equalise with the run of play. 1-1. Ospreys hit back with strong pressure down the left and end the half pressing Wayfarers deep into their half. End of Q3: 1-1.
Final quarter again starts with Wayfarers pushing hard for the win and coming up against a strong Ospreys defensive line stepping up yet again. Nendick turns on the turbo boost in the final quarter with some strong interchanges with Fegan down the right channel culminating in Osprey’s second short corner, Padgett delivers the assist for Fegan to score from the short (1-2 Ospreys). Wayfarers try to counter with a strong period of possession but the Ospreys defence continues to hold firm, the last minute features a goal to Osprey’s with Saksena with the assist and Henkes netting (1-3 Ospreys final score).
