GU14 Eagles Qualify for Supra League

Gameday: 3rd November 2024

By Mark Rogers

GU14 Eagles 6 - 2 Hampstead & Westminster (A)

GU14 London Tier 1 League

In a dazzling display of talent and flair, the U14 Eagles vogued their way to a 6-2 victory in a match that felt like a high-energy episode of Drag [Flick] Race UK. The win left fans across the world celebrating as the Eagles became the first team in the 2024 London Girls U14 Tier 1 League to qualify for the Supra League, with two games in hand, pipping their sisters in the Wrens to the prize by 45 minutes.

Preparations for the match began early: Eagles fans packed their first aid kits and regularly checked their players for nosebleeds, as they ventured north of the river to the home stadium of Hampstead & Westminster HC. Captain Sofia took charge of her troupe upon arrival, getting them out of the dressing room and delivering a catwalk-ready extravaganza of a warm up routine.

From the very start, it was clear that this was going to be a performance to remember, and it didn’t take long for the excitement to unfold and for the Eagles to serve up a spectacle. Just four minutes into the game, Leia delivered an outrageous drag flick that would bring a tear to the eye of RuPaul. The ball glided past the opposing defence, setting the tone for the rest of the match as the Eagles exploded into an exhibition of drag flicking and other show-stopping routines.

But H&W were not about to sashay away, waiting only four further minutes to equalise. It was one RuPeter Badge apiece and the stage was set for an exciting match. As the game progressed, the home team struggled to keep up with the fierce momentum from the Eagles, resplendent in their deep green and white second kit and leading the fashion stakes. Becca and Sofia dominated possession in the midfield, working together like a perfectly choreographed dance crew, while Seren, Sylvie and Gemma executed their moves at the front with pace and agility. After H&W’s equaliser, Ebba stepped into the spotlight to respond, scoring two in quick succession.

The team showcased their skills with a level of precision and style that would make any artist proud, Boo executing plays with the kind of confidence that would win over any panel of judges. With dazzling footwork and strategic teamwork, Cesca and Lyla created opportunities, resulting in a goal from Maya that extended the Eagles lead further. Refusing to go quietly, H&W added to the excitement and drama of the performance by securing a second goal and hunting for more, showing their deadly skills in the D. But Emily was fierce in the goal mouth, death-dropping to secure each save.

The Eagles quickly responded to the change of pace, Sylvie going on the offensive once again whilst Saffron and Taylor fortified their position and protected the Eagles goal (and Emily) from further danger, sending the ball up the pitch with powerful strikes. The crowd erupted with each move, cheering for every well-timed pass and fierce tackle as the girls executed their game plan flawlessly - an excellent pass from Cesca allowing Violet to perform a breath-taking run and clinch the final goal.

The final whistle blew with a score of 6-2, and the players celebrated their victory like an encore at a West End Production. It was a match filled with passion, talent, and a lot of drama, seeing the Eagles safely into the Supra League. Proving that when they work together, this team can truly slay on the field.
