BU18 Vikings 1 - 1 Holcombe BU18 (A)

To the graveyard slot, 5.15 push back on a Sunday evening for a "friendly" vs Holcombe. The previous week or so had seen brain fades by parents who thought that availability sheets magically fill out themselves, teams selected by themselves as long as "little Fred" plays... er not quite how it works.

Some flux over the summer as the odd U18 player prioritises Further Maths A Level/golf/ 'Spoons (delete as appropriate). In terms of 'Ins', forward Alfred, taking the “If you can't beat em, join em" approach transfers from Cambridge to SHC - welcome.

Early issues struck for fellow forward Dexter. Logistics problems had befallen the Cranleigh branch of Gail's; with no tumeric or soy milk deliveries, the youngster was denied his pre-match soothing tumeric soy latte. Instead his modus operandi for the majority of the game was seven year old at a party going hyper from too many Haribos.

The Vikings were finding joy with Cowling's strong running at right half. Like the outswing bowler who now can bowl the inswinger, Cowling is now skinning players on the inside as well as the outside which saw Surbiton win a number of PCs. Strong defensive PC running and a strong Holcombe keeper denied Surbiton. Holcombe looked threatening through midfield and up front with some pacey, skilful forwards. A swift counter saw a 1 vs 1 with Shinny, in goal, going aggressive- aggressive: a stroke awarded and 1-0 to Holcombe.

In the second half, Toby T turned his ankle and had to sit out the remainder of the game - we wish him a speedy recovery. The side missed his nous and ability to keep things simple and out of contact. Instead, things got rather frantic and bizarre with foot awards won on the half way line being celebrated like World Cup wins. Eventually the PC count told as with the last play of the game an Allsop power drag flick took a deflection off a defender's stick to finish high in the netting on the pads side - final score 1-1.
