Wolves 1 - 5 Richmond 4s (A)

Gameday: 21st September 2024

By Abby Francis

*THE CURTAIN RAISES*

Act One:

The team enters the pitch with a gleeful skip in their step as we have one of our returning players on the front line.

The cries of the wolf are hardly heard as the opposition dominate the first half. Carving through the pitch like a hot knife through butter. Disjointed play from Surbiton ensues for the next five minutes. Then, a ray of light and demonic laughter runs into the pitch. Abigail, playing like her shirt is full of bees, has lost all understanding of the game. Is she a half, a back, a forward… no one is quite sure.

Calm settles across the pitch as the Witchery of the opposition's pressing takes full hold. Surbiton have found the mojo and begin to attack back. Some epic one-two’s from the midfield and fancy footwork of Lauren and Sophie have made a break. They are on the attack and a short is awarded. A buffoon pushes out the short and whacks the ball a whole 15cms into the D! Sadly this did not result in the desired glory goal.

Whilst the umpires acquaint themselves with short corner rules, the goals are popping into the goal from the maroon advancers.

Act Two:

At half time we are 3-0 down but the sweeties did their job. Structure and accurate passing with the tenacity of Sarah and Chengai down the left are making a difference to the game. We’ve hit our stride and are working well together.

The legs in the opposition are tricky to catch but Louise and Debs are reading the game and blocking advances.

The wolf pack is strong and Athie is taking no chances and running back to save the day! She wards off the attack from a clever pass from Caitlyn and another fine example of teamwork as Kerrie, Anya and Kate make an impressive run up the pitch.

A switch to midfield and a run from Taryn has the ball firmly in the grip of The Pack! A shot on goal from Taryn, Kate and then Abby brings a welcome relief to the team as the backboard is finally making a noise in the oppo's goal.

One more advance from the opposition results in a goal leaving the score firmly in their favour.

The whistle blows and the pitch is now filled with red faces with just enough energy to head off for teas.

The cast take a bow to a result most undeserving. Each wolf licks the wounds of the other with compassion and kindness. celebrating our appreciation of each other and the teamwork and love we have for THE PACK

*CURTAIN FALLS*

The award of DOD goes to Abby whilst our very talented Athie secures MOM and the honour of wearing her own cleverly crafted Wolf Hat!
