Women’s 2s 4 - 1 Wimbledon 2s (A)
By Amie Hunt
In a local derby clash, Surbiton 2s secured a decisive victory against Wimbledon consolidating their position at the top of the table and their fourth win in a row.
The Dogs started strong from the get go, and controlled most of the possession and scoring opportunities in quarter one. A great reverse deflection from Hannah D, set up by Harriet B, saw Surbiton take the lead.
Surbiton intensified their efforts in the second quarter, with strong outletting and attacks. This resulted in another quick goal from Hannah D. With an initial shot just outside the D, Amie H made up for it ten seconds later by scoring a replica of the previous reverse stick strike.
In the third quarter, Wimbledon stepped up with lots of pressure which led to a goal being conceded. Surbiton’s defence had to work hard, Lilie L making some particularly decisive tackles and Amber W some stunning saves to keep Surbiton on top. Some notable sliders from Pip S led to several good attacking opportunities for Surbiton.
After a strong quarter time talk from Will, Surbiton started linking up passes nicely creating several goal scoring chances. Shakila K ripped up the defence, linking up to Izzy Y who deceived the defender with a pass to Amie H, who finished top corner.
The game ended 4-1, with Lilie L and Izzy Y getting well deserved Players of the Match.
Not the best match from Surbiton but we still came away with a win. The Dogs look forward to a home match against Canterbury next week.
