Girls U14 Matches
Swans vs Old Cranleighans
A challenging game for the Swans against OCs this Sunday, which finished 2-2. However, a draw in a cup game meant shuffles. This could have been anyone’s game, but the Swans were able to score three shuffles and OCs only one, which meant the Swans won 5-3. Goals were scored by Jess, Issy, Isla and Flo. The team all decided that Phoebe H (goalkeeper) deserved to be Player of the Match for her incredible saves especially during the shuffles. Overall, a great effort made by everyone and well done.
Swifts vs Reading
The Swifts faced Reading on Sunday for their cup game, it was a tough game for them and unfortunately they lost 4-1. The goal was scored by Holly M who was also captain for the Swifts that weekend. Well done to Poppy for making seven great saves and congratulations to Kathleen A for being selected as Player of the match.
Magpies vs Richmond
A tough fought out game for the Magpies against Richmond. The girls never gave up and it was a thrilling match keeping everyone on their toes. The girls adapted well at one point having only 10 players on the pitch due to Ria receiving her very first green card in hockey. The girls ended up winning 3-2, with goals scored by Charis, Ria and Teddi. Overall, the girls worked very hard, Pippa T made some great saves and congratulations to both Charis and Ria for being selected as Players of the Match.
Doves vs Southgate
It was a very tough game for the Doves against Southgate, unfortunately they lost 6-3. Well done to the team for working hard and to Charlie J x2 and Amelie T for scoring goals. Great saves by Poppy L in goal and congratulations to Sofia J for being selected as Player of the Match.
Hawks vs East Grinstead
A very close game for the Hawks on Sunday against EG, managing a 2-1 win. An own goal was scored and the second goal was scored by Freya. It was a tough game but the girls performed well and kept working hard, well done to Isla in goal for making great saves and congratulations Clara for being selected as Player of the Match.
Eagles vs Wayfarers (By Mark R)
Amongst the leafy surrounds of Battersea Park, the Eagles soared to new heights in their cup match against a spirited London Wayfarers team. Pumped up by Captain Freya's warm-up, the players were full of strength, speed and aggression and goals from Natalia (2), Saskia and Leyli gave them a deserved 4-0 lead. Job done; the Eagles stroked the ball around the pitch like a Battersea Barcelona seeking “olés” from the crowd before the final whistle propelled them into the next round.
Falcons vs Old Cranlaighans
The Falcons fought hard this Sunday against OCs, it was a close game but unfortunately the girls lost 2-1. The goal was scored by Charlotte and assisted by Sophie F. Ava was definitely kept busy in goal and made over ten saves to keep the score close. Overall, a great effort from everyone on the pitch and well done to Kaila for being selected as Player of the Match.
Girls U16 Matches
Rovers vs Spencer
A tough game for the Rovers this weekend against Spencer, losing 4-1. Well done to Molly for scoring a goal assisted by Mowli. Great saves from Caitlin in goal, making over seven incredible stops. Overall it was a tough game but the girls can learn lots from it, congratulations to Amber C for being selected as Player of the Match.
Voyagers vs Blackheath (by Katie Sole)
Well, what an afternoon for the Voyagers! With a long journey to Blackheath for the second round of the T2 Cup KO Championships, and the challenge of fending off a tough opponent, with only 11 players fit to play!
The girls got off to a rather shaky start, with an early goal from Blackheath that put the Voyagers on the back foot early on but the girls fought hard and pressed the Blackheath defences repeatedly for the remainder of the first half. 1-0 at half time.
A lesser squad could have allowed the frustration of the situation to get the better of them, but a lesser squad they are not. They all showed gumption, strength of character and a whole lot of talent. Despite a second goal from the opposition (and sideways rain), the girls rallied and came back with a cracking goal from Jaimie with around ten minutes left to play. This was the seismic shift needed to inject even more fire into the Voyagers’ game and suddenly everyone was thinking, maybe...!
The equaliser came in hard with an awesome reverse shot from Tallulah. With no more than four minutes to play the whole team sprinted back to the restart. The girls were determined, confident and worked SO WELL within the 23, until finally the winner came from Emily with about a minute to go. The whole Surbiton squad and their supporters erupted with excitement! 3-2, with seconds to play!
They had to fend off a last-ditch attempt from Blackheath, but the whistle finally called time and with it came relief, excitement and absolutely joy!
You played brilliantly girls, every single one of you, and you utterly deserved this win! WELL DONE!
Onwards to the next round.
