Vintage Put Five Past Hampstead

10th April 2022

By Paddy Tripp

Vintage 5 – 0 Hampstead & Westminster Grand Masters

Team (all Vintage unless detailed): Frost (Magnets), Harding, Powdrell (Magnets), Bishop (OC’s), Molloy (Nomad), Cheng (Magnets), Beaney C (Magnets), Green (Magnets), Foster, Waller (Magnets), Aparicio (Nomad), Paterson, Tripp, Kant (India)

Umpires: Borrow & Whelan

Scorers: Foster, Paterson, Aparicio (2), Waller

After the last three weeks, it was so good to get back to a group of willing players and making up a decent squad. And we had two umpires who did their job for us – much appreciated, thank you.

The game started seeming pretty equal and it looked as though they were capable of winning but we gradually took hold from the moment that Matt Foster scored. From then on it was a case of when we could score again and could we avoid any mistakes at the back. Luckily when we did make a mistake, Frosty was there to sort it out. In general, we played well individually and, for once, as a team.

But it is strange when you play a person “out of position” and he scores two goals!  Well done Apo. As usual Waldo and Rowley joined the scorers list.

The oddest part of the day was the “team” photo. If you asked me who were the real members of the Vintage team, I could probably give you 2 names – 1 SHC and 1 OCHC!

In general, it was a most enjoyable day on and off the pitch. The attitude and sociability took one back many years. Hampstead supplied a good team and it was good to see them enjoying Surbiton’s facilities.
