Ladies 2s Hold League Leaders Sevenoaks
By Ellie de Heer
Ladies 2s 1 – 1 Sevenoaks 1s
After a dominant display again Trojans last week, Surbiton were keen to cause an upset against league leaders, Sevenoaks. Attempts to unsettle us had begun before the match had even started, with some local hooligans deciding to throw a bag of dog poo onto our side of the pitch. It’s safe to say that got us raring to go.
Surbiton had a slightly slow start with Sevenoaks having a few chances which included missing a very open goal - unlucky pal (for those reading this, please do not pass this on to Sevenoaks).
This gave Surbiton the wake up call they needed and their response was frightful: some superb balls from Freya Robinson, and some silky skills from Charlotte Daly led to a multitude of attacking opportunities. However, it was a through ball from Lilie Lamacraft which found its way to Gemma Townsend who powerfully made her way through two Sevenoaks players and put it past the keeper.
It was 1-0 to Surbiton going into halftime and Sevenoaks were looking a little lost for words. Although they had plenty of words for the umpires.
Sevenoaks responded aggressively and early on in the second half managed to put the ball into the back of net. It was 1-1 and it was all to play for. Play was end-to-end for the remainder of the game but Surbiton had the better of the chances; a couple of short corners for Surbiton unfortunately couldn’t be converted. The game ended 1-1.
Quote of the evening: ‘Don’t worry girls, it’s all on camera’ - Sevenoaks, not sure which number. And I couldn’t agree more with her - Surbiton dominating for large spells is absolutely on camera. Enjoy watching!
Surbiton go again on Saturday at 1.30pm against Cambridge at home. Come along for what I’m sure will be a cracker.
