Magnets Slip Up to Richmond Rogues
By Mark Waller
Magnets 1 - 2 Richmond Rogues
Scorer: David Curry
POM: Chris Beaney
This was yet another strange performance by the Magnets, continuing the pattern of a somewhat schizophrenic season. And there can be no excuses this time. We simply played very badly: guilty of not pre-scanning, holding onto the ball too long in midfield and running into blind alleys when an early pass would have been the best option. Despite this, we still dominated the game. Unfortunately, our goalscoring touch deserted us and we squandered several reasonable chances. Meanwhile, at the other end of the pitch we somehow contrived to concede two ridiculously soft goals, giving Richmond an improbable 2-0 lead at half time.
The second half continued in much the same vein and we failed to really threaten the opposing D. Too many stray passes and unforced errors put us on the back foot and we were fortunate that Richmond were unable to capitalise and extend their lead. Our most threatening moves came from breakaways down the flanks, and eventually DC was able to dispatch a deflected cross hard into the backboard from the top right of the circle. There was still time for an equaliser but we were unable to find the necessary panache and composure to get something from the game, and somehow ended up losing 2-1. A hugely disappointing performance and result.
Many thanks to Ray for travelling and umpiring in the inclement weather.
