Jokers Cruise to Victory
By Luke Michael
Surbiton Jokers 3 – 0 Wimbledon Masters 1s
The Jokers cruised to a 3-0 victory over Wimbledon to sit third in the league.
We dominated possession in the first half with some patient build up play but the final pass was too often lacking; the Dons approach was more of a nod to their 80s counterparts, launching fast, route one counter-attacks and even a brief period of aerial bombardment late in the game. Nevertheless, the first half looked like ending without score until a Surbiton short corner in the final minute: James Burns improvised at the top of the circle to leave attackers and defenders unsure of the plan. However Jason Foster had clearly read his intentions sufficiently to attempt a deflection a few inches out – Snicko awarded the goal to Foster.
Surbiton were able to play with more freedom in the second half and could have added significantly to the scoreline. Rob Stone added a second with a corner strike and James Burns a deserved third, having tormented the Wimbledon defence all afternoon.
