By Surbiton HC
Surbiton HC is excited to announce that Ireland goalkeeper Ayeisha McFerran is set to join the Women's 1s for the new season.
Tokyo Olympian Ayeisha joins from from HC Tilburg following a number of seasons in the Dutch Hoofdklasse. With over 130 international caps for Ireland and having played a key role in Ireland's incredible charge to a World Cup silver medal in 2018, she brings proven quality and experience at the highest level to the Women's 1s backline.
Ayeisha says, "I'm super excited to be joining Surbiton and challenge for honours this season. The team is full of talented players and I want to help them get that title and EHL spot back. I'm looking forward to getting started and seeing what playing for Surbiton is all about!"
Head Coach Dave Beckett is looking forward to welcoming Ayeisha to the squad: "We're absolutely delighted to bring Ayeisha into the W1 group. She's a top class goalkeeper - being nominated twice for FIH World Goalkeeper of the Year speaks for itself. But more than that, she's still got huge ambition. She's got her sights set on the World Cup next year with Ireland and you can see the hunger she still has to push herself and her team forward. Her experience at the highest level will be massive for us not just on the pitch but around the group as well."
He is also keen to acknowledge the contribution of W1 goalkeeper Amber Walton over the last couple of seasons: " I want to say a massive thank you to Amber for everything she's given the team. She's been a credit to the club having come up through our junior ranks and going on to perform at senior level with real maturity and quality. The highlight for me was undoubtedly seeing Amber deservedly named as Player of the Tournament at the EuroHockey Trrophy in Hamburg in 2024. She's been a big part of our group both on and off the pitch, and on behalf of everyone at Surbiton I'd like to wish her all the very best with the next step in her hockey journey."
