W1 Start Their Super 6s Premier Division Campaign This Weekend
By Colin Pike
Surbiton Women start their Super 6s Premier Division campaign this weekend at Repton, hoping to go one stage further than in 2024 when they were runners-up to East Grinstead at Derby.
Surbiton start the Premier Division programme on Saturday against Harleston Magpies at 1030 and then face Holcombe, who were promoted from Division One last season, at 1430.
Holcombe originally finished fourth in the 2024 Division One table, but were elevated to first after the discovery that Beeston had inadvertently fielded an ineligible player, amending the results of three matches to 5-0 defeats.
This ultimately meant that Beeston and Reading, who originally finished in first and second were replaced by Holcombe and Sutton Coldfield.
And it is Sutton Coldfield who provide the opposition in Surbiton's first match on Sunday at 1300. Surbiton conclude their first weekend against hosts Repton at 1700.
The second weekend sees Surbiton take on Buckingham at 1330 on Saturday, in a rematch of the 2024 semi-final at Derby, where Surbiton won 4-1 to reach the final for the first time in their history.
Guildford are Surbiton's opponents in the final game of the day on the second Saturday, with push back taking place at 1830.
The final day of competition on 12 January starts with Surbiton facing reigning champions East Grinstead, who won the title with a 6-1 win over Surbiton, having won narrowly 2-1 at the Premier Division round robin stage.
Surbiton's final match will be against Slough at 1500, when they will hope to have finished in the top four to secure a place at Finals Day in Derby for the second season running.
The games can be followed in real time via the England Hockey Altius website here
