M1 Aim For Super Sixes Promotion In Bristol This Weekend

10th February 2025

By Colin Pike

Having won all four matches over the first weekend of the Super Sixes Division One tournament at Nottingham Trent University, Surbiton Men will be aiming to complete their promotion quest at the University of the West of England in Bristol on Saturday and Sunday.

After a 6-5 see-saw battle with Oxted in their opening match, Surbiton overwhelmed Repton 9-0. On Sunday, they followed up with a 6-2 win over Exeter University and a 4-2 victory over Ashmoor, who had been relegated with them from the Premier Division in 2024, to end the first weekend with a three point lead over second-placed Oxted and a five point lead over third-placed Bowdon.

Surbiton have a relative late start to their second weekend when they face Beeston, one of three teams to have three points at the halfway point, at 1430 on Saturday. Bowdon are Surbiton's opposition in the final match of day three at 1830.

On Sunday, Brooklands Manchester University, who earned four points last weekend, face Surbiton at 1000 before a Surrey derby against Guildford at 1600 is scheduled to complete Surbiton's fixtures.

The games can also be followed in real time via the England Hockey Altius website.

Surbiton and Oxted are currently on course to replace Canterbury and Team Bath Buccaneers in the 2026 Men's Premier Division, but with fifth to ninth places only separated by four points and fifth place just three points away from qualifying for Finals Day, there will be a lot to play for in the top flight before the final places are confirmed.
