Former Junior Star Maddie Long Buzzing for W1 Return
By Surbiton HC
Surbiton HC is delighted to announce that GB EDP player and former SHC junior Maddie Long will be back at the club next season.
Maddie is one of the club’s great junior success stories, first picking up a stick while at local primary school Esher Church and progressing through the Surbiton junior sides and playing for partner school Hinchley Wood. A fast and skilful attacker, Maddie has gone on to medal with England’s U21 Women at the World Cups and European Championships. In recent seasons, she has combined playing Premier Division hockey at University of Nottingham with her degree studies and training in the GB Elite Development Programme.
Head Coach Dave Beckett is pleased to see Maddie choose to return to Sugden Road: “A former junior coming back to the club after being away at university having grown as both a player and a person is special to see. Maddie is an exciting player who has shown great development over that time, she knows what the club is about and will slot back into the team environment really well. I’m looking forward to working with her.”
Maddie says, “I’m buzzing to be coming back to Surbiton, the club where my hockey journey began and where I’ve already had so many incredible experiences. I’m looking forward to playing with such an exciting team and creating more special memories.”
Welcome home, Maddie!
