B2H: Other Playing Members Who Keep B2H Running
By Roger Hitch
In my twelve previous newsletter articles, which I hope are a good archive record for B2H at least, I have mentioned the principal members who run our group. This article is to honour those who also provide a volunteering service, however small, and explain what they do to keep B2H running smoothly with our fast-paced progress. B2H is very grateful for all the help provided, not only those listed below but, by many others who, quite often, are unseen but nevertheless contribute in their own way.
--
Suresh: As our B2H Ambassador, last season we presented Suresh, during his recovery, with a B2H custom embroidered black polo shirt with the view to him wearing it in the bar to promote B2H.
Gary: Recently taken over the captaincy of the GRIFFINS 7s team from Matt where player availability, team selection, playing positions and motivation are the cornerstone of good team control. He also holds the record for a season’s 100% Monday training attendance.
Jez: A new member this year taking on the role of Winter 11s team captain, for matches against other clubs, with experience brought from playing for the Army.
Apurva: Holding the fort as vice-captain of the DRAGONS 7s team while captain Sarah S looks after her new baby. Apurva has the management skills to ensure his team is in a good state to hand back to Sarah on her return later this year.
Charlie: Whose team is leading the monthly 7s T as captain of the SIRINS and says “Who needs good management to win” – Maybe he is right!
Chris C: Now a qualified coach, steps in and takes a training session when we need that type of help.
Angelina B: As a GU11 player, handles control of the monthly Ts control desk very well, having to time three things at once, on occasions, when we have naughty players on pitch!
Michael: We call him “Fast and Furious” as he darts around the pitch while captaining the Men’s Summer League 24 team to victory, as well as maintaining the green bib set to a pristine condition.
Sam & Will S: Our 150th Anniversary Tournament captains of teams SAM and TEDDY.
James A & Murray: Who have captained the Hurricanes and Spitfires in our first Winter 11s internal.
Lia: Possesses a calm and strong approach to captaining the Women’s Summer League 24 team. Despite difficult opposition, she directed the team to achieve some amazingly good results.
Emma H and Roger: Maintain the orange and lemon bib sets respectively.
Louise: When the B2H Manager is lounging, absent without leave, in a foreign location Louise handles the Saturday Game Play management. She was also our London Pride Tournament captain.
Giles: Without the help of Giles and his umpiring, our play would not be as well controlled, of course.
Josh: Advises on difficult and tricky decision where his life experience comes into play.
Murray, Jacques, Stuart M, Garyth: They keep our Après Hockey sessions in the bar ticking along each Monday, plus others as well.
Gary, Ivett, Richard, Stuart S: Are all 100% attendees keeping the register numbers high.
Rosy: Working in the background encouraging our Women members to attend the Après Hockey sessions in the bar.
Will S: Anything GK-wise, Will is always there to help out – happily, as he works for Mercian. He also stands in for KiTV on occasions.
Sarah S: Currently looking after her three-month old baby, so her captaincy of the DRAGONS is on hold for the moment.
Gemma: Luckily for B2H, Gemma has designed an advertising digital flyer which we used earlier on in the season.
Kit: Our beloved Kit, who shines brightly on each of his attendances, handles various video records of the games he attends as a spectator, with a handle of KiTV, giving our web archive site a good insight into how we play!
Will F: As the club’s Coaching Director, he provides us with advice and services as we go along ensuring that our coaching efficiency is well maintained.
Alice, Zac, Harry, Jack and all the bar staff: Look after us, sometimes well into the evening and I hope we are not there after closing time too often!
Beckie M: Whose dedication to publishing my articles in the newsletter is amazing and a very big contributor to our membership increase on an ongoing basis.
And of course, all the members without whom there would be no B2H.
Apologies if I have left anyone out but please know that all of B2H are very grateful for all the effort from volunteers and SHC staff that everyone puts into our progress.
The next B2H article is titled ‘What exciting things we have planned for the new year and beyond’. This will be published in the week of Monday 9th December.
