L1 Visit Beeston On Saturday
By Colin Pike
Surbiton Ladies play their final Investec Women's Hockey League Premier Division of 2019 when they visit Beeston on Saturday (push back 2 pm at Nottingham Hockey Centre).
Beeston had an unexpected day off last weekend when their scheduled match at Bowdon Hightown was postponed due to a frozen pitch.
Beeston are eighth and were bottom of the table on 5 October after losing their first four games.
A 4-1 home defeat to Hampstead & Westminster was followed by a 3-0 loss at Surbiton; a 3-2 defeat at Holcombe and a 2-0 loss at the University of Birmingham.
Their recovery began with a 2-1 win at Clifton Robinsons followed by a 2-1 home win over Buckingham which lifted them to the dizzy heights of seventh place.
Two successive defeats, at home to Loughborough Students (0-1) and at Holcombe (0-3) saw them drop to ninth, but a 3-1 win over Birmingham and a narrow 2-1 defeat at East Grinstead has seen them move up to eighth.
Lauren Burrell is Beeston's top scorer with three goals with support coming from Sian Emslie, Rebecca Malyon and Paige Gillott who have each found the net twice.
Rosy Stephens and Ali Eadie have both scored once.
Surbiton will want to bounce back from last weekend's 1-1 draw with the University of Birmingham, the result ending a run of eleven successive wins, starting and ending at Bowdon Hightown.
Elsewhere on Saturday, Hampstead visit the University of Birmingham; East Grinstead entertain Holcombe; Loughborough Students are at home to Clifton Robinsons and Buckingham welcome Bowdon Hightown to Stowe School.
