Wales Women lost their second match at the Hockey Series Open tournament in Vilnius, Lithuania, going down 1-0 to the Ukraine, Yevheniya Kernoz scoring from the penalty spot in the 24th minute.

The game was as close as the countries’ world rankings, Wales ranked at 26 and Ukraine one place lower at 27.

Surbiton’s Emily Rowlands came on as an eighth minute substitute and was one of two Welsh players shown a green card, banished to the sin-bin in the 38th minute.

The Ukraine had two green and two yellow cards in the match, but Wales couldn’t take advantage of any of their powerplays.

Wales now have a break until the weekend when they face two key matches, the first against the Czech Republic (WR 19) on Saturday and hosts, Lithuania (WR 36) on Sunday.
