It is with great pleasure that Surbiton Hockey Club announces that it will be hosting the second EuroHockey Club Cup for Under 14 girls (U14 EHCC) from 19-20 May 2018.
In 2017, the U14 EHCC was inaugurated by the European Hockey Federation (EHF) in Brussels to mark International Women’s Day and to underline the EHF’s commitment to ensuring 50/50 gender equality in hockey.
The two-day tournament will be held in partnership with Kingston Grammar School. Most matches will be played at the school’s Ditton Field sports’ ground, but semi-final matches and the prize-giving ceremony will be held at Surbiton’s Sugden Road venue. The junior event will run alongside the well-established EuroHockey Club Cup, Women, which will be held at Surbiton Hockey Club from 17-20 May 2018.
The participating teams in the U14 EHCC are s’-Hertogenbosch (NED), AH&BC Amsterdam (NED), Mannheimer HC (GER), UHC Hamburg (GER), Cork Harlequins (IRE) and Surbiton HC (ENG).
It will give the U14 girls from the participating clubs a wonderful opportunity to play against other European teams in a competitive environment, and to enjoy and watch matches in the senior competition. This will enable the juniors to acquire a taste for European club hockey and improve their own technical skills.
Surbiton’s Club Captain, Mark Waller, said “we are very proud and delighted to be hosting both the 2018 EHCC and the second U14 EHCC tournament, and are looking forward to some high-level games of hockey at both levels.”
Sarah Haycroft, Surbiton Ladies’ 1st XI Captain, said, “this is always an exciting tournament and it is a fantastic opportunity for our U14 girls to experience top-class European hockey.”
