England’s U18 Boys beat France 2-0 on Friday to boost their chances of avoiding relegation to EuroHockey Championships II.
After a goalless first half, Stuart Rushmere broke the deadlock with a 36th minute penalty corner conversion, England having to wait until four minutes from time to secure the win, Thomas Russel scoring from open play.
England top Pool C with six points having carried over their earlier 7-0 win over Poland, to boost their goal difference to plus 9.
Ireland and France both have three points with France facing Poland and Ireland taking on England in the final round of matches on Saturday. England play Ireland at 1.45 pm BST.
Surbiton’s Morgan Males and Adam Buckle were both in the England starting lineup, with goalkeeper, Taylor Seager-Green coming on in the second quarter and Conor Williamson entering the action in the sixth minute.
