England U18 Boys finished fifth in the EuroHockey Championships in Santander, Spain, in spite of losing their final Pool C game 1-0 to Ireland, who also avoided relegation to the second tier.
Oliver Kidd’s ninth minute penalty corner conversion proved enough to keep both teams in the top flight.
France beat Poland 6-2 but were relegated on goal difference after the top three teams in the pool all finished on six points.
Surbiton’s Morgan Males and Adam Buckle were both in England’s starting lineup whilst Conor Williamson came on as a seventh minute substitute and goalkeeper Taylor Seager-Green took over in goal at the start of the second quarter as the goalkeepers were rotated.
