Surbiton’s Under-14 Girls made a lightning start to their Junior Club Championships campaign at Sonning Lane, Reading on Sunday, winning 6-0 against Cambridge City in their first Pool B game.
In the other game, Marlow, Surbiton’s opponents in their second pool game, beat Thirsk 3-1.
Emily Sawers broke the deadlock within one minute of coming on as a substitute, scoring from open play in the ninth minute. Surbiton then went on a scoring run either side of half time, Caragh Haspal scoring the second goal in the 14th minute with Gemma Townsend ensuring Surbiton led 3-0 at the break with a goal in the 15th minute.
Surbiton were on fire, scoring a fourth goal immediately after half time, Zoe Lawrence putting Surbiton firmly in control.
Cambridge were caught out twice in the 24th minute, Ella Cashman converting a penalty corner and Tamar Cooper scoring from open play to complete a convincing 6-0 victory.
