Surbiton Hockey Club is pleased to announce that Tom Sorsby will be Surbiton Men’s fourth signing of the summer, arriving at Sugden Road from the University of Nottingham.

Sorsby, 21 years old, began his career at Chapeltown in Sheffield before joining Sheffield Hallam in 2013. At Hallam, Sorsby played with current Surbiton players, Brendan Creed, Arjan Drayton-Chana, David Goodfield, Willie Marshall and Nick Parkes.

In 2015 he moved to Beeston before spending the 2017-18 season with the University of Nottingham, the MHL Conference North champions, just missing out on promotion via the Promotion Tournament.

Sorsby has also been capped at England U18 and U21 level and at Great Britain U21 and U23 level. Sorsby has competed in two Sultan of Johor tournaments, in 2016 for England U21 (4th) and in 2017 for Great Britain U21 (2nd). Sorsby was also a member of the England squad which finished eighth in the Uttar Pradesh Hockey Junior World Cup in Lucknow, India in 2016.

Sorsby also helped England U21 to a fifth place finish in the 2017 EuroHockey Junior Championships in Valencia, Spain together with Zach Wallace.

Sorsby also has international indoor experience, captaining the England senior team in the EuroHockey Indoor Championships in Alanya, Turkey in 2018. Ben Boon, another recent Surbiton signing was also in the squad.

Looking forward to joining the reigning MHL Champions, Sorsby said, “I’m very excited at the prospect of returning to the Premier League and to do so with a club who have enjoyed so much success. From the initial impressions with people around the club it seems like a great environment to be involved in and somewhere that I can see myself enjoying my hockey and thriving. I’m looking forward to playing in the EHL as it is something that I’ve always wanted to play in and also looking forward to playing with old team-mates that I had done so as a teenager back at Sheffield. I can’t wait to get set up down South and get started!

Surbiton HC Men’s Head Coach, Mark Pearn said, Tom is an outstanding prospect and a player we have been watching and admiring for some time. We are naturally delighted that he has chosen Surbiton HC as the place where he can continue to develop and enjoy his hockey. He is exactly the type of player we need to add to the quality we already have in the squad, to allow us to continue to move forwards and challenge strongly in the Euro Hockey League.
