Scotland Men lost 4-1 to Russia in their penultimate match at the Hockey Series Open tournament in Lousada, Portugal on Saturday afternoon.

Scotland dropped to third behind Russia and Belarus, but are virtually guaranteed a top three finish with Portugal due to face Russia in their final game.

Russia took the lead in the 11th minute, Pavel Goluvev putting away the rebound after Tommy Alexander’s initial save.

Eight minutes later, Semen Matrovskiy extended Russia’s lead from the penalty spot.

Luke Cranney gave Scotland hope in the 38th minute with a reverse finish, but Matrovskiy found the backboard from a penalty corner with ten minutes remaining and Marat Khairullin followed suit with a hard hit shot after the Russian forwards put the Scottish defence under pressure.

Yet again, Surbiton’s Tim Atkins and Willie Marshall were both in the Scottish starting lineup.
