Scotland Men beat hosts Portugal at the Hockey Series Open in Lousada for their second win of the tournament to join Russia and Belarus on six points on Wednesday afternoon after the start time was delayed by 15 minutes.
Having made a blistering start against Turkey in their first match, Scotland had to be more patient against Portugal. A penalty corner in the 22nd minute saw a penalty stroke awarded but Surbiton’s Willie Marshall saw his shot saved as Portuguese goalkeeper Andre Romariz moved to his left to push the ball wide of the right post.
The deadlock was broken in the 36th minute, Kyle White finishing off a well worked attacking move from short range. Three minutes from time, Scotland were awarded a second penalty stroke which this time Robert Harwood slotted just inside the left post beyond Romariz.
Both Marshall and his Surbiton team-mate, Tim Atkins were in the Scottish starting lineup.
