Surbiton’s Luke Noblett, who had previously played for New South Wales in the Australian Hockey League (AHL) helped Australian Capital Territory (ACT) finish eighth out of ten teams in Perth.

ACT lost all four Pool B matches, 0-3 to New South Wales; 2-3 to Northern Territory; 2-3 to Western Australia and 0-2 to India.

With the top two teams in each pool qualifying for a four team Pool C, the remaining six teams battled it out in Pool D for effectively fifth to eighth place.

ACT finished fourth, beating South Australia 4-1 before losing 1-3 to Tasmania and 2-4 to a New Zealand Development squad.

Meanwhile former Surbiton player, Naomi Evans helped her ACT squad to sixth place in the Women’s AHL, also in Perth. ACT finished fourth in Pool A, losing their first two games to Western Australia (2-4) and the New Zealand Development Squad (0-2) before going unbeaten through the rest of the tournament.

The two defeats and two subsequent draws against Queensland (1-1) and Northern Territory (2-2 with Evans scoring a goal) ended ACT’s hopes of a top two finish in the pool. A 1-0 win over Tasmania ensured they finished fourth, before wins over South Australia (3-0) and India (2-0) gave ACT a second place finish in Pool D.
