Surbiton’s Luke Noblett saw his Australian Capital Territory’s Australian Hockey League campaign start with a 3-0 Pool B defeat to New South Wales in Perth on Thursday afternoon, Australian time.

Ten teams are competing with a New Zealand Development squad and an Indian squad joining the eight Australian squads. The teams are split into two five team pools, with the top two teams in each pool qualifying for Pool C with the remaining teams battling it out in Pool D.

ACT face Northern Territory on Saturday, Western Australia on 1 October and India on 3 October.

Noblett was in ACT’s starting line-up, with New South Wales scoring all three goals in the fourth quarter.

Western Australia beat Northern Territory 3-1 in the other Pool B game.

In Pool A, Victoria beat South Australia 8-2 and Queensland beat Tasmania 4-3.

Former Surbiton Ladies player, Naomi Evans also saw the corresponding women’s campaign start with a defeat as her ACT squad lost a 2-0 lead to lose 4-2 to Western Australia on Thursday afternoon.

Evans was in the ACT starting line-up.
