Surbiton came close to clinching a national championship double at U12 level, the Girls winning and the Boys losing on dramatic penalty shootouts after drawn finals.

On a weekend which saw all four Surbiton teams at U12 and U14 level remain unbeaten, the Boys just missed out on national glory as Rugby and East Warwickshire won the shootout 5-4 after a 2-2 draw in normal time. Wins over Deeside Ramblers (2-1), Cheltenham (2-0), Bromsgrove (2-1) and Norwich Dragons (5-0) saw Surbiton finish top of their pool and qualify for the final.

The Girls also won all four of their pool games with wins over Rugby & East Warwickshire (6-1), Clifton Robinsons (3-1), Thirsk (1-0) and Harleston Magpies (2-0). Sevenoaks stood between the Girls and the national title and as in the Boys’ final the scores were level at 2-2 at the end of normal time. Surbiton held their nerve and won the shootout 3-1 after a final which won rave reviews from both sets of supporters.
