Auckland women, including current Surbiton Ladies player Beckie Middleton, beat reigning champions Canterbury 1-0 on Tuesday to earn a Ford National League quarter-final match-up with Central on Thursday.

With the competition restructured to match the eight team Hockey World League format, the finishing positions in each pool determined which teams from each pool would meet each other in the knockout stages.

Auckland, captained by former Surbiton player Julia King, topped Pool A and will play Central, the fourth placed finisher in Pool B. The match will see Middleton face the club she played for in both 2014 and 2015 before taking a break from Southern Hemisphere hockey in 2016.

Both Middleton and King were in Auckland’s starting line-up against Canterbury.
