Surbiton’s Lewis Prosser has been named in the Welsh squad to compete in the Men’s Series Finals in Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia starting on 26 April.

Wales are ranked 24th in the world and are fifth of the eight teams taking part in the competition.

Wales have a tough start against Canada on 26 April as Canada are the top ranked team courtesy of the World Ranking of 10.

The next day they face Belarus (WR 31) before completing theiir Pool A fixtures on 29 April against Austria (WR 19).

Pool B consists of Malaysia (WR 13); China (WR 14); Brazil (WR 27) and Italy (WR 37).

After the pool stages, the fourth placed team in each pool plays for 7th/ 8th place on 2 May.

The second team in each pool plays the third team in the other pool in crossover matches on 1 May with the pool winners getting byes into the semi-finals. The crossover match losers play for 5th/ 6th place on 2 May with the semi-finals on 3 May and the medal matches on 4 May.

There are two other FIH Series Finals taking place in June in Bhubaneswar, India and Banbridge, Ireland.

The top two teams qualify for the Olympic qualifiers, however Wales cannot qualify as England is designated as the top country within Great Britain, therefore if Wales finish in the top two, the third team will not automatically qualify in their place, the qualifying team will be determined per the FIH World Rankings after the completion of the Continental Championships in September 2019.
