Surbiton Men’s hopes of finishing top of the Jaffa Super 6s Premier Division were ended after Holcombe came from 3-0 down at half time to win 5-4 at Bromsgrove School on Sunday morning.

Wimbledon are now guaranteed to finish top of the table after the eight qualifying matches, whilst East Grinstead, Surbiton and Team Bath Buccaneers have all qualified for finals day at the Copper Box Arena on 28 January, with just the finishing order to be decided.

Surbiton, aiming for a sixth successive victory after losing their opening match against Wimbledon, made the perfect start, Alan Forsyth scoring after just two minutes. Willie Marshall added further goals in the 13th and 15th minutes, the second from a penalty corner to leave Surbiton cruising at half time.

Holcombe began their comeback within two minutes of the start of the second half. Robert Field scored in the 22nd minute, with Daniel Webster converting a penalty corner five minutes later.

Holcombe were level in the 34th minute, Max Webster scoring, and a minute later took the lead, Harry Trusler on target.

Daniel Webster extended Holcombe’s lead from a penalty corner with three minutes to play, but although Forsyth finished a minute later, Surbiton couldn’t find an equaliser and fell to a 5-4 defeat.

Surbiton play Brooklands Manchester University in the final game of the day at 1700.
