Surbiton’s Tim Atkins, the club’s recent signing from Reading was in the starting lineup as Scotland beat the USA 3-1 in the first of three Atlantic Series matches in Glasgow at Sunday lunchtime.
Gavin Byers gave Scotland the lead in the fourth minute from open play, only for the USA to equalise three minutes later through Alexander Grassi.
Before the end of the first quarter, Scotland’s lead was restored, Cameron Golden scoring in the 12th minute.
The scoring then settled down, Byers converting a penalty corner in the 39th minute to give Scotland a 1-0 series lead.
Surbiton’s Willie Marshall is also in the Scottish squad, but was rested for the first game with further games to come on Monday and Wednesday.
