Surbiton Men resume their Men’s Hockey League Premier Division season on Sunday when they visit the University of Exeter (push back 12.30 pm).

The game will be played at the University of Exeter Sports Park, Stocker Road, Exeter, Devon EX4 4QN

Exeter were promoted last season and held Surbiton to a draw when the teams met for the first time this season the game ending 1-1

Exeter are ninth, a point ahead of Sevenoaks. Apart from the point they earned at Sugden Road, Exeter beat Sevenoaks 3-2 at home in November, but have lost the other eight games.

At home, Exeter lost 4-1 to East Grinstead; 5-0 to Hampstead & Westminster; 3-1 to Brooklands Manchester University and 3-1 to Wimbledon in a rearranged game in early December.

Away, Exeter lost 3-0 at Beeston, but were more competitive at Holcombe where they only went down 3-2. Their visit to Reading ended in a 4-2 defeat, but the return match at Hampstead saw an improved performance where they only lost 2-0.

Undoubtedly their key match will be next Saturday (16 February) when they visit Sevenoaks, but Exeter will be keen to build on their excellent result in Elmbridge.

Historically, Surbiton have only ever beaten Exeter once in the league, 6-2 in their first meeting at Sugden Road in 2009. The return match saw Exeter win 4-3 with a last minute penalty corner, but the three subsequent meetings have all ended 1-1.

Of their eleven league goals this season, James Ferguson has scored three; George Carson, James Carson and Ben Cooke have all scored twice and James Thomas and Ben Hooper have each scored once.

Elsewhere, with East Grinstead aiming to win promotion in European Indoor Hockey, there are only three other matches in the top flight this weekend.

Beeston host Brooklands Manchester University; Reading are at home to Sevenoaks and Wimbledon take on Hampstead & Westminster.
