Surbiton Men, having come away from Holcombe with a stunning 6-1 victory last Sunday, aim to keep Hampstead & Westminster at bay at the top of the Men’s Hockey League Premier Division when they visit bottom club Sevenoaks on Sunday (push back 2 pm).

The match will be played at Hollybush Lane, Sevenoaks TN13 3UH.

The 6-1 win at Holcombe combined with Hampstead’s 5-4 home win over Brooklands Manchester University, extended Surbiton’s slight goal difference advantage over Hampstead at the top of the table, but Surbiton will need to battle to maintain their lead.

Sevenoaks are in their second season in the top flight, having avoided relegation back to the Conference East by finishing ninth last season and saving themselves via the Promotion Tournament.

Sevenoaks have only ever won one Premier Division match, 3-1 at home to Brooklands Manchester University in October 2017. This season they drew 1-1 at home to Brooklands Manchester University and 0-0 at home to Reading a fortnight ago.

Their other matches have resulted in defeats at Beeston (4-0), Holcombe (6-0), home to Hampstead (2-0), at Wimbledon (5-2), East Grinstead (3-2) and in a key match, 3-2 at the University of Exeter.

Ali Taylor and Tom Chandler have both scored two goals with the other goals shared between Duncan Parnis, Andrew Oxburgh and Chris Barker.

Exeter and Sevenoaks have swapped ninth and tenth places over the last couple of weeks, and with the halfway point of the season this weekend, Sevenoaks are two points behind both Exeter and Wimbledon having played a game more than both teams.

Last season Surbiton won both games: 6-2 at Sugden Road and 3-1 at Sevenoaks

Elsewhere, Reading host the University of Exeter on Saturday night.  On Sunday, Hampstead face an intriguing match at East Grinstead, Beeston are at home to Holcombe and Wimbledon play Brooklands Manchester University as both teams aim to pull away from the bottom of the table.
