Having lifted the Super 6s Championships trophy at Wembley Arena in January 2017, Surbiton Men head to Switzerland to take part in the EuroHockey Indoor Club Cup in Wettingen, Switzerland from 16-18 February.
Last season, East Grinstead finished fourth in Vienna, behind German champions Uhlenhorst Mulheim.
This season, Surbiton start their campaign against the hosts, HC Rotweiss Wettingen, a team that was effectively promoted to the top tier after finishing second in last year’s EuroHockey Club Trophy in Sveti Ivan Zelina in Croatia. Although it is the country which is promoted (or relegated if their qualifying team finishes seventh or eighth), both Wettingen and Trophy champions, Racing Club de Bruxelles have qualified for this season’s Cup competition.
The game against Wettingen is on Friday (16 Feb) at 1230 (CET), followed by a match against Rot-Weiss Koln at 1915 (CET) on Friday evening. Surbiton complete their Pool A schedule against Russian side Dinamo Elektrostal at 1130 (CET) on Saturday (17 Feb).
Surbiton will be aiming to finish in the top four and qualify for the semi-finals. Otherwise they will carry forward their result against the Pool A opponent which will join them in relegation Pool C. They would then face the bottom two teams in Pool B, aiming to finish in the top two places of Pool C to avoid relegation and the prospect of the 2018 Jaffa Super 6s Champions, East Grinstead competing at Trophy level in 2019.
Pool B consists of SV Arminen of Austria; AH&BC Amsterdam of the Netherlands; C.H. SPV Complutense of Spain and Racing Club de Bruxelles of Belgium.
