Surbiton Men had to come from behind before claiming their third victory in the Jaffa Super Sixes Premier Division at Bromsgrove School on Sunday: trailing 3-2 before winning 5-3 over East Grinstead.

East Grinstead took the lead in the fourth minute through Simon Faulkner’s penalty stroke but an open play goal from Arjan Drayton Chana in the 11th minute and a penalty stroke in the 14th minute from Alan Forsyth put Surbiton 2-1 ahead. Dominic Bowden equalised five minutes before half time as Surbiton changed round at 2-2 for the second successive match.

The momentum was with East Grinstead three minutes into the second half as Bowden gave them a 3-2 lead, but Drayton Chana began Surbiton’s comeback midway through the half with a penalty corner conversion.

Surbiton captain, Jonny Gall gave his side a 4-3 lead with four minutes to play and any hopes that East Grinstead had of earning at least a point were ended by Forsyth scoring Surbiton’s fifth goal in the last minute.

When the competition resumes on 5 January, Surbiton will start against Sevenoaks, joint leaders with Hampstead and Westminster after the first weekend with maximum points from their first four matches.
